I know that many here lovingly detail their cars. By contrast, today was a good day because my cars are back to basic cleanliness. The Outback got all of the nasty salt washed away and I apologized to it for subjecting it to northern weather and treated roads , if only briefly.
More importantly I took a glass scraper razor to the GTI. I took off very resistant dots of something on the windshield tha t had been annoying me for months. Also scraped off the remnants of the autocross season tech sticker that had become a mess. And I VERY CAREFULLY chipped off the fossilized gum that had adhered to the front of my hood. Oh, so much better, and no obvious paint damage.
Soon I’ll call in a pro to Svend the car and hopefully the residual gum marking can be repaired, or at least look like the paint chips already taken out of the hood. I should probably have paint correction done now that it has 52k hard miles.

With the weather and my health, it’s been a while since I properly cleaned a car. Hopefully I will be able to get back to it soon.

I hope so. You are an inspiration to us all. Even if some, like me, don't take it so seriously, it's good to see cleaning done right.

Thanks mate. I wish I wasn’t so poor as to be able to get a lovely garage to clean in, somewhere with a nice kitchenette and a small bed to bed down in from time to time.

Ye’, I got three cars ‘washed’ only in December in one day . It was cold but I needed to get the majority of the crud off.

I know a guy, known him for about 20 years, when I lived with him I used to clean the company car he used, it was one of two pool cars that was shared amongst over a dozen drivers and I was the only one to ever clean it.
Later he bought himself a Mk2 Focus. I washed it once, when it was (to him) eight years old, that is the only time it’s been given a proper wash during his near 15 years of owning the car. It now gets used as a ‘dog car’, used to take his black lab Alfie to walks, etc... the rest of the family refuse to get into the car as it’s so filthy and smelly.
